After reading this article I would not be surprised at a $10,000 Apple Watch Edition that needs to be "serviced" every couple of years...
> I think this is a problem that we all ought to be concerned about, and that the major watch companies should be doing more to address. This small set of companies are now selling literally millions of mechanical watches annually (~28.5 million for 2014), with more than 615,000 in the above-$6,000 Swiss watch category alone. These new watches have better materials and lubrication than their vintage cousins, but they still need to be serviced and regulated. Either the major brands need to invest more in servicing facilities, or they need to be willing to work with trained and licensed independent technicians. If they don't, the cost and frustration of ownership will simply irritate us all into forgoing this hobby of ours.
